Dorothy Altura (1912-2010)

Dorothy I. Height, líder de los derechos civiles, nació en Richmond y vivió en este barrio hasta 1916. Durante más de 50 años trabajó por la justicia racial y la igualdad de género. Sirviendo en el personal nacional de la Asociación Cristiana de Mujeres Jóvenes (YWCA, por sus siglas en inglés) de 1944 a 1977, Height fomentó el diálogo interracial y llevó a la YWCA hacia la plena integración. Como presidenta del Consejo Nacional de Mujeres Negras durante 40 años, promovió el desarrollo económico y el derecho al voto y asesoró a los presidentes de los Estados Unidos.
